The Winds of Grief

I was told once that grief is the price we pay for loving so much. That grief never goes away, but does come in waves like wind. We become reeds bending this way and that way in the waves of this wind. The pain can knock your breath away.

Eventually, the wave recedes and the reed stands back up again only to wait for the next wave of crushing wind. The reed, like us, is strong enough to bounce back, but flexible and soft enough to bend with the wind. If it didn’t have the ability to bend, it would break in half during the onslaught.

Grief is a hard, never ending journey. I’ve been told it’s important to take moments to bend with it…to feel it…to release it. These moments are necessary process the pain, the regrets, the loss, the finality.

Know it’s okay to grieve.

Know you are not alone.

Know you are seen.

Know you do not have to hide your grief.

Know you are loved. –V
